<p>Устав Картезианцев„ отличался строгой аскетичностью, они обязаны были жить в кельях поодиночке, хранить обет молчания. Но широко развернутая ими торговля и ремесленно-промысловая деятельность (напр., виноделие: Картезианцами изготовлялся особый ликер шартрез) быстро привели к накоплению в руках Картезианцев больших средств. </p><!-- Yandex.RTB R-A-6212320-2 -->

<p>Ими построен ряд монастырей, отличающихся необычайной пышностью, богатством и красотой архитектуры, как напр. Павийская Чертоза в Италии и Шартрез во Франции. В конце 18 в. Картезианцы были изгнаны из Франции, и несколько монастырей их осталось только в Италии.</p>
